Frederick “Fred” Otto Simon was born to Frederick Otto, Sr. and Marie Curtis Simon on August 28, 1929, in Houston.

Fred, or “Pops” to those that knew him, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013.

Fred, a true Renaissance man, was willing to share his knowledge with anyone and everyone whether they wanted to hear it or not.

After serving his country from 1951 - 1953 in the United States Army, Fred worked as an Industrial Engineer until becoming President and CEO of North American Fabricating Company from 1971 – 1983.

He was a lifelong member of the National Cutting Horse Association and was an announcer for the Texas Prison Rodeo in Huntsville for many years.

Fred was a member and director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo until just recently. Fred loved to bull ride, fish, read mystery novels and delved too far into conspiracy theories. He was a highly skilled leather-smith and custom rein and bull rope braider. He also loved sweets, especially dark chocolate, almost as much as the “ladies man” loved women, and they loved him back. He truly had a heart of gold and never refused help to those he cared about.

Fred was a member of the Good News Baptist Church in Katy.

Fred is survived by his son, Steven Simon and his fiance’ Jennifer Burns and her children, Miller and Delaney, of Katy, his daughter, Wendy Honeycutt and her husband, Steve, of Bellville, his grandchildren Spencer Honeycutt, and Justin Krause and lifelong friends Wayne King, Buster Parish, and Don Pate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Mark, his grandson, Mitchell, lifelong friends, Wayne Lockey and Buck Ferguson, and the mother of his children, Barbara C. Simon.

A Cowboy Memorial Gathering was held Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 2-5 p.m.c/o at Steven and Jennifer’s house at 3535 Brinton Trails Lane, Katy, Texas 77494.

Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the: Austin County Unit of the American Cancer Society, c/o Vernice Luhn, 1310 Meissner Road, Bellville, Texas 77418.
