JOHN P. FERRELL was born in Tennessee in 1819, and first came to Texas in January, 1836. He received 1/3rd of a league of land from the Washington County land Board on June 7, 1838. This came two years after he fought with the Texas Army at the Battle of San Jacinto . He was a member of Captain Isaac N. Moreland's Company, and received 640 acres of land for participating in the battle. His Service Record reveals that he served in the army from February 27 to June 4, 1836.
In 1874, Mr. Ferrell was living in McDade, Bastrop County, and passed away in 1892 in Austin County. He was buried in the Thomas Cochran Cemetery near Buckhorn. He was a member of the Hubert Masonic Lodge No. 67 in Chapel Hill, Texas from 1855 to 1856, and also belonged to the Texas Veterans Association. |
