John Alvin Mumme, 98, passed away on April 6, 2015. He was born Dec. 24, 1916 on the family farm in Hondo, Texas to Alvin and Isabell Mumme. He had four sisters. After graduating from high school in Hondo, he attended Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas on a football scholarship majoring in engineering. After college John was employed by an engineering company surveying water and sewer lines, and staking electric highlines. John later became employed with Robert H. Ray, a geophysical company out of Houston, and found himself traveling from state to state and Canada for the next 30 years. John was hired by the City of Bellville in 1974 and served as City Superintendent for 18 years until he retired in 1992 at the age of 76. John loved his city and served with his favorite organizations working with his friends. He served as superintendent for the Bellville Golf Course from 1972 until 1989. A member of the United Methodist church in Bellville for 35 years. Director with the Chamber of Commerce of Bellville, Member of Crime Stoppers, and 911, served on the Industrial Foundation Board and a longtime member of the Lions Club. John married his wife of 46 years, Margaret Trousdale. They had three daughters Bonny Zitnik of Victor, Colo., Sue Brazell and Peggy Gaston both of Georgetown, Texas. John and Margaret had five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Margaret passed away in1987. John was a special father to his daughters and was very proud of each and every one of them. With his outdoor lifestyle skills he used his younger years teaching his daughters to hunt, fish, and play golf. In his later years he played golf “shooting under his age.’ He was especially proud of being able to play in his later years with his wife and three daughters. Margaret passed away in 1987. John married Grace Nichols in 1989 joining with her family of five children. Wayne Nichols, Linda Dalton, Tracy Faterkowski, Richard Nichols and Gina Patrick enjoying many years of family togetherness. Grace passed away in October 2014. Because of his good health, he had many happy senior years of time to relax with his families, garden, fruit trees and flowers. He was so grateful and contented playing his cards and dominos to the very end of his life. He gave daily thanks to the Lord for his good health and happy life.He spent his final days in the comfort of his daughter Sue’s home with his girls to his final days. Pallbearers were Members of the Bellville Lions Club. Memorials may be made to the Bellville Lions Club.
