Obituary
2023
Jennie Bell Abel Gregor passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Bellville, Texas. She was born December 18, 1925, in Coshatte Austin County, Texas to Asmus and Valeska Henrichsen Abel. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville, Tx. Jennie attended Coshatte, Hempstead, and Bradbury Schools. She graduated from Bellville High School in 1943.
After graduation, she moved to Galveston, Texas, and went to work as a secretary for an attorney Allen Bailey, Jr. the father of Kay Bailey Hutchinson. After a year, she moved back to Bellville and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Bellville Gas Company for 10 years. During that time in 1944, Jennie met Jerry Gregor, who worked at a local gas station. They married on March 24, 1946, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellville. Jennie changed jobs and went to work for Austin County State Bank in Bellville for 18 years. During this time, she and Jerry had 2 children, a girl Judy and a boy Rusty. Jennie retired from the bank in 1983 and started doing volunteer work. She and Lenora Zander delivered meals on wheels Monday thru Friday, every week, for 10 years. Jerry helped them if need be. Also, She and Jerry helped out at Rusty’s Gym while Rusty was busy with his full-time job. While Judy and Rusty were growing up and going to school, Jennie was always involved in their sports activities, baseball, football, track, and also Brownies and Girl Scouts and Band mom. Jennie loved her church and did volunteering by being a greeter, singing in the senior choir, helping with vacation bible school, and teaching Sunday school. Her hobbies were gardening, canning, baking, horseback riding, and fishing, and watching the Astros! After Jerry passed away, 2 granddaughters came into her life, and a whole new world opened up for her. They were the light of her life. She enjoyed taking care of them when they were little, enjoyed going to all of their sports activities, taking them to fun places, knowing their friends who also called her grandma, and just doing everything a grandparent does. She made it to their high school graduations and watched their college graduations online. She was the proudest grandma!!! As her health declined, her family was always with her whenever they could be, and we all were with her when she passed. Jennie is survived by her son, Rusty Gregor, Granddaughters Carrsyn Bell Gregor and Baylee Claire Gregor, Daughter Judy Wells and Son-in-law Joseph T. Wells, Niece Kathy Kinninger and husband Gary, Nephew Henry Abel Jr. and wife Connie and their families.
