Austin Burger, 19, of Cat Spring, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, in Cat Spring.

Born June 5, 1995, in Brenham, the son of Roy Burger and Mandy (Smith) Burger; he grew up and attended schools in the Cat Spring/Bellville area.

Austin was employed as a ranch hand. He enjoyed team roping and did a take at riding steers.

When Austin was young, his dad took him on a few motion picture sets. Austin wanted to meet “Sky” from “Touched By An Angel.” He was told by his dad to make sure that his shirt was tucked in and he looked nice for this young lady. Austin waited in the early morning hours to meet her and after several hours, he fell asleep until she arrived on the set for rehearsal. After many hours of waiting, he was able to meet her. Sky even allowed Austin to nap a few times in her “movie star” trailer during her rehearsals.

In his free time, Austin’s love for music led him to entertain others as a DJ.

Austin is survived by his father Roy Burger and his wife, Melissa, of Bastrop; mother Mandy Smith Burger of Bellville; brother Hayes Burger; half brother Clint Burger and his wife, Cherie; half sister Abby Burger; half brother Cole Burger; half sister Leila Smith; and nephew Spin’er Burger. He is also survived by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Justin Burger, grandparents, Fred W. and Hazel Burger, and aunt, Cheryl Acebo.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015 from 2-5 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Funeral Service was held Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with Pastor Sonny Rice officiating. Pallbearers were Clint Burger, DeWayne Burger, Mike Barrett, Russell Reichardt, Ben Dyer, Robert Navarro and Jonathan Peck.

Friends may make donations to the Austin Burger Memorial Fund, c/o Industry State Bank-New Ulm Branch, PO Box 155, New Ulm, TX 78950. Make checks payable to Roy Burger and place Austin Burger Memorial Fund in the memo space.
