Obituary Mrs. Maggie Bartay

After having been in failing health for several years, Mrs. Maggie Bartay died at her home here Monday, May 18th, at 10 p.m., aged 59 years, 8 months, 2 days. She had been seriously ill since Thursday of last week. Funeral services, largely attended, were held at the family home Wednesday at 3 p.m. and interment made at Oak Knoll, with the Rev. George Cook, a Baptist minister from Brenham, officiating. Favorite hymns were sung by a mixed choir, and the grave was covered with a profusion of beautiful flowers.

Decedent, who was Miss Abbie Magdeleine Spence was married Jan. 31, 1889, to Ben Bartay, who died about three years ago. She is survived by seven daughters and four sons—Mrs. Ed. Kirpatrick of Bellville, Ben Bartay of Brenham, Mrs. A. L. Lyth, Bellville, Tony Bartay, Bastrop, Mrs. Ed. Carlisle, Chapel Hill, Mrs. Jim Jackson, Lamesa, Mrs. Henry Phillips, Bellville, Mrs. Benno Foehner, Winslow, Ariz.,Mrs. Jack Wacey, Fort Worth, and Arthur and Chester Bartay, Bellville, and by 17 grandchildren. There are also two surviving sisters, Mrs. Mary Lee of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Lou Bell of Muldoon, Texas, and four brothers, Ed. Spence of Houston, John Foster of Cameron, Jean Foster of Winters, and John Spence of Muldoon.

All of the children and most of the grandchildren were present at the funeral, as was also Mrs. Tony Bartay of Bastrop, Ed Carlisle of Chapel Hill, Jim Jackson of Lamesa, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bartlett of Fort Worth, and Mr. and Mrs. John Foster of Cameron.
