Avis Lanell (Palm) Pouncy, wife of the late Melvin Pouncy Sr., passed away in the comfort of family at home on May 27, 2024, at the age of 77. Avis was born in Bellville, Texas in 1946 to Fred Palm Jr and Myrtle (Vornkahl) Palm who resided in Millheim. She attended Bellville schools and lived most of her life there. As a very active leader in the Austin County 4-H program, she persistently gave her time to teach and guide young people through their 4-H experiences. Avis exemplified the line in the 4-H Motto, “My hands to larger service”. She was devoted to her faith and taught Sunday school as well as Vacation Bible School at Bellville Methodist Church.

Avis was awarded Outstanding Young Women of America, she served several years on the Austin County Parade Committee including the role of Chairman, and became a Lifetime Member of the Austin County Fair, she served on the HLSR Swine Committee from 1981-2020 and is a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She was often recognized for her service, leadership, and accomplishments with one of her most cherished moments being celebrated with an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Texas Pork Producers Association in 2018. Avis was incredibly devoted to her family, giving to everyone before considering herself. She was active as a member of the Millheim Hall, Texas Floodplain Management Association and Aggie Moms. Her time on earth was a true blessing to her family, friends, and the Austin County community she loved.

She is survived by 4 children: Shelia Wilkes, Melvin Pouncy Jr. (Tracy Cotner-Pouncy), Teresa Kelly, and Darrin Pouncy (Becky Pouncy). In addition, she is survived by 9 grandkids: Tiffany Wilkes (Kory Ross), Amber Kelly, Kevin Wilkes (Mackenzie Wilkes), Shelby Johnson (Logan Johnson), Colton Pouncy, Dylan Pouncy, Kameron Pouncy, Mason Pouncy, Lanie Kelly and 5 great grandkids: Carter Spires, Payton Wilkes, Casen Kelly, Levi Johnson, and Wyatt Johnson.

Avis is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Melvin Pouncy Sr., both of her parents, her sister Marilyn (Palm) Becker and her grandchild Taylor Kelly.

Serving as pallbearers in honor of Avis are Dwight Callis, Dr. Ted Ford, Charles Fuller, William Kulow, Kevin Wilkes, and Allen Zwahr.
