He served in Capt. John Austin's company at the battle of Velasco in 1832 and at the battle of San Jacinto as a private in Capt. William H. Patton's Fourth Company-the so-called "Columbia Company"-of Col. Sidney Sherman's Second Regiment, Texas Volunteers.
