Clara May Schroeder

Clara May Schroder was born in Altus, Arkansas on March 5, 1937, to parents Hal Victor and Addie Beeson Harris.

Clara grew up on a beautiful homestead in Altus and was one of five children. She graduated high school in May of 1955 and moved to Houston, Texas to start working at Woolworth’s. In 1956, she met the love of her life, James Schroeder; they were married on May 26, 1957, in Spring Branch, Texas.

They moved to Sealy in 1958 when their son, Jamie, was born to be close to family and welcomed their daughter, Terri, in 1962. Once they both started school, Clara opened a daycare, was a Sunday school teacher and an active member of the Methodist church, and opened a store where she created and sold quilts, crocheted afghans, hand-sewn dolls, and animals. Her talents were endless and even though she took on many different roles to keep her busy there was no doubt that her favorite role was mom, then soon grandma, and best yet great grandma.

Clara loved to paint, sew, read romance novels, crochet, play dominoes and cards, work puzzles, watch Hallmark movies, tend to her beautiful roses and gardenias, bake treats, square dance, travel, and so much more. She truly loved everything about life and would always greet you with a smile.

Clara will always be remembered as someone who genuinely cared about everyone she crossed paths with. She was loving and generous and she always put her familys’ needs before her own.

Clara is survived by husband James Schroeder, son Jamie Schroeder, daughter Terri Burnham, grandchildren, Erika Burttschell and husband Adam Burttschell, Samantha Moeckel and husband Jeremy Moeckel, great grandchildren Addie, Jack and Silas, sister Nina Abernathy, adopted daughter Angela Napps and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clara is preceded in death by her parents Hal Victor and Addie Harris, sisters Ruth Going and Lottie Lee Rowett, and brother Hal Victor Jr. and wife Kimie Uchida Harris.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love, kindness, generosity and prayers during this difficult time, you all help keep a source of comfort and strength in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sealy.
