Ruth Mardell Hueske Steck, age 92, of Bellville, was called to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in Brenham.
Ruth was born July 15, 1931, in Brenham to Fred and Rosena Lehrmann Hueske. She attended school in Brenham for 5 1/2 years, graduating from Bellville High School in 1949. She was baptized at Zionsville Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellville. On May 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to William C. “Billy” Steck at St. John’s Lutheran Church and welcomed a daughter, Christie, in August of 1952. Ruth was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after marriage and for a short time lived in Bryan While Billy played semi-pro baseball before making their home in Bellville. She was employed by Citizens State Bank in Sealy for over 20 years in the bookkeeping department. As a member of St. John’s, she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She sang in the choir as a child and later in the adult choir. In later years she helped with Little Lutherans and Shooting Stars. Ruth was a member of the Bellville Beatification Foundation and an active in the Bellville Golf and Recreation Club. She was an excellent golfer, once hitting a hole-in-one. She rarely had spare time. Preferring to be busy. Outside was her favorite place to be, taking care of the yard…even still mowing at 83. Christie mowed the hump while she mowed the flat part. She said if she could walk with a walker she could walk behind a mower! Ruth was a homemaker, took care of her garden and canning. She was a seamstress and could sew anything from sewing doll clothes for Christie’s Barbie dolls to dresses, to coats, to prom dresses. Ruth is survived by her daughter Christie Whitesides of Bellville, grandchildren: Misty Whitesides of Austin and grandson; Ryan Whitesides of Leander, great-Grandchildren Layla Whitesides and Ethan Whitesides, along with numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Billy; parents; Fred and Rosena Huesek, sister; Bernice Marek, and an infant sister Charlene, brother; Eugene Huesek, nephew; Dr. James H. Marek. Also preceding her in death were six brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, father and mother-in-law, former Sheriff Marcus and Norma Schroeder Steck. |
