Death of L. H. Baron

Shortly before eight o’clock this morning (Thursday) the shocking discovery was made that L. H. Baron had committed suicide, by hanging himself, in the barn, at his home in Bellville. No reason for the act can be imagined, except a sudden mental derangement. He had attended to his work around the place as usual this morning and the tragedy is as great a mystery to the grief stricken family as to any acquaintance of his The funeral will take place tomorrow, Friday, June 21at, at four o’clock p.m. at Oak Knoll. Rev. Sagebiel, a Lutheran minister of Brenham, and a former pupil of Mr. Baron, will officiate.

Mr. Baron was born in Bastrop on June 18, 1874, and resided there until seventeen years of age, when he began his career as a teacher, in Bastrop. He then attended the Normal Institute of Huntsville and later taught in Colorado and Lavaca counties, then five years in the Lutheran College at Brenham. Later he taught at New Wehdem, and then, after two years at Industry, was elected School Superintendent for Austin County, eight years ago. During his incumbency a great many improvements have been made in our rural schools, evincing the interest that he took in his work. Friends all over the county will be shocked at his untimely death and by them sympathy is felt for the family to whom he was a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his widow, two young daughters and a little son, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Baron of Bastrop, three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Smothers of Laverna, Texas, Mrs. Paula Polk of Bastrop, and Mrs. Will Meyer of Yoakum.
