Services for Mathalda Peters, 98, of Sealy were held May 28 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy with the Rev. Octavios Muguerza officiating. Burial followed at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Sealy. Peters died May 26 in Katy. She was born in Fayetteville, the daughter of Frank and Johanna Chovanec Vasut. She was raised in Fayetteville and attended the Fayetteville Catholic School. Peters was united in marriage with Joe Peters on Sept. 6, 1926, in Fayetteville. The Peters lived in Amarillo, Gruen and then Sealy, where they raised their family. They later moved to Katyville. She was a homemaker and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Sealy KJZT. Peters was preceded in death by her husband and parents; six sisters, Millie Zapalac, Frances Shula, Sophie Kollaja, Julie Supak, Mary Appelt, and Claudia Jurecka; and five brothers, Frank, Joe, Charles, Emil, and Henry Vasut. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lorine and Jim Kirkham of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Joe Jr. and Vessie Peters of Houston; five grandchildren, Kathryn, Steve, Kevin, Rick, and Tim Peters; four great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Christopher, Andrew, and Jake Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
