Martha Lee Schwartz Standlee went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 85 on January 5, 2015 in Sugar Land, Texas. Martha was born on June 1, 1929 in Crews, Texas to Walter and Sadie Schwartz, being blessed to be one of fifteen children. She graduated from Winters High School in 1946.
While attending Sul Ross State Teacher's College in Alpine, Texas, Martha met Allen Standlee. They were married on February 1, 1947 and lived in a section of the campus specifically for married students called Toonerville. The first of their three sons, Stanley Earl, was born in Alpine in 1947. After Allen graduated, he accepted a position with the Dow Chemical Company and Martha and family moved to Freeport, Texas. Kerrie Glenn was born in 1950 and Alan Royce was born in 1951. Martha and Allen lived in the Freeport area until 1970 and because of a job transfer, moved to Dardanelle, Arkansas where they remained until 1987. They moved back to Texas to enjoy retirement in the Smithville-Rosanky area. Martha lived there until 2000 when she moved to Bellville to be closer to family. Martha loved her Lord and expressed this love through her many activities at church and her witnessing, including her joy of singing, especially at the nursing home on Fridays. Her greatest enjoyment was playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martha's final years were spent in assisted living. Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Allen D. Standlee; parents, Walter H. and Sadie Lee Schwartz; sisters, Jennie Margaret Lee, Doretta Gerhart, Alta Mae Belfiore, Joyce Peteete; and brothers, Walter Schwartz Jr., Ralph Schwartz, and Lanny Schwartz. Martha is survived by her sons, Stanley E. (Marilyn) of Sealy, Tx, Kerrie G. (Marilyn Sue) of Tigard, Or, and Alan R. (Nancy) of Lake Jackson, Tx. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Melissa Thompson (James), Sarah Berkey, Mark Standlee (Mindy), Keith Standlee (Audrey), Reed Standlee, and Fanni Standlee; seven great-grandchildren, Zoe Thompson, Lexi Thompson, Isaac Thompson, Lincoln Standlee, Landon Standlee, Josh Standlee, and Nathan Standlee; four sisters, Arlene Boles of Winters, Tx, Waldene Walpole of Monroe, Louisana, Phyllis Fulton of Odessa, Tx, and Nancy Allison of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and three brothers, Hardy Schwartz of Comanche, Tx, Don Schwartz of Odessa, Tx, and Jimmy Schwartz of Early, Tx. Pallbearers are Mark Standlee, Keith Standlee, Reed Standlee, James Thompson, Lynn Brown and Walt Ruzicka. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Bellville, Tx. The service of celebration will be held at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, with interment at the Sealy Cemetery.
