The Sealy News, February 26, 2020:

Bernice Theresa Krause Reibenstein, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2020 in Sealy, Texas.

Bernice Theresa was born an only child to parents Fritz and Mary Ann Albrecht Krause in Nelsonville, Texas on October 8, 1926. She was baptized in November of 1926 at the New Wehdem Lutheran Church at New Wehdem, Texas. Her confirmation was in May of 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas. Bernice attended school in Nelsonville and then graduated from Bellville High School in May of 1945.

Bernice married Leslie Reibenstein on December 6, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellville. Together they owned and operated the City Café in Sealy from 1950-52. Along with many years of farming, ranching and custom hay baling. Bernice and Leslie owned and operated Sharon’s Variety Store in Sealy from 1960-1972. Leslie passed away on November 27, 1971.

It was in 1972 that Bernice joined the Sealy United Methodist Church and became the Church Secretary there for three years. She then was the Church Secretary for twenty-two years for the Bellville United Methodist Church. Bernice remained a faithful member of the United Methodist Women of Sealy, serving some of these years as secretary, and was also a member of the Chancel Choir for 30 years. Added to the list of her many church affiliates, Bernice served as a member of the Texas Annual Conference in Houston, Texas for 12 years. Anyone who knew Bernice knew her love of the Lord and of her church. Bernice faithfully studied her Bible lesson each and every morning up until the last few years when her health began to decline.

Bernice, better known to us as “Granny” loved her family. As she said, “we were her life”. She was always interested in what everyone was doing and loved to attend their sporting events, especially football. And she loved to watch the news and talk politics! However, what became most important to Granny was to prepare lunch each and every Saturday for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and any extras we decided to bring along. She would cook all morning in preparation of her brood coming over and she would always provide enough for all of us even when she didn’t even know how many were coming! Granny knew how to bring us all together at her table. Now Granny is being served at “HIS” table because she came prepared. We are blessed to have many wonderful memories and her everlasting love to cherish.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Fritz & Mary Krause; her husband, Leslie Reibenstein; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mildred & Leroy Hillboldt, and Esther & Hilton Luedecke.

Bernice is survived by daughter, Sharon Brandes and husband, Jack; and son, Harold Dean Reibenstein and wife, Connie; grandchildren, Jeff Brandes and wife, Jennifer, Ashley Hewson and husband, Richard, Ryan Dean Reibenstein and wife, Tara; great-grandchildren, Brennan, Breanna, and Baylee Brandes, Riley and Hunter Hewson, and soon to arrive, Jaxson Dean Reibenstein; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Delores & Clarence Dittert; godchild, Marsha Tipp; and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends that visited her regularly. These visits were greatly appreciated by Bernice and her family!

Services for Bernice Theresa Reibenstein were held Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cat Spring. Burial followed at the Sealy Cemetery. A reception followed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.

Serving, as pallbearers were Jeff Brandes, Brennan Brandes, Malcolm Dittert, Richard Hewson, T.J. Menke, and Ryan Reibenstein. Honorary pallbearers are Breanna Brandes, Baylee Brandes, Riley Hewson, and Hunter Hewson.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapels 768 Fourth St., Sealy; 979-885-3535; www.knesekfuneralhome.com.
