Obituary
2022
Jacquelyn "Granny Jackie" Brandes passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2022 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Jackie was one of four children born to Herbert and Mandoline Goebel on July 20, 1946. She grew up in Sealy, Texas, and graduated from Sealy High School. Jackie played basketball, volleyball, was a Harvest Festival Princess Candidate, Vice-President of the Freshman Class, attended Bluebonnet Girls State, and was the Senior Class Secretary. Shortly after high school, Jackie married Waddel Brandes and their union was blessed with four children known as the cotton tops. Throughout the years Jackie worked as a secretary for the Sealy ISD, Assistant Administrator for Azalea Manor Nursing Home in Sealy, Assistant Administrator for the Retirement Care Center in Hempstead, Sales Clerk for Creekmore Hardware and Roofing in Sealy, Sales Representative for Manufactured Homes in Sealy and Brookshire, all the while raising her family. Jackie has been a longtime member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellville, TX.

Jackie was known in Sealy as a master seamstress and truly loved to help people with any kind of sewing project. Throughout the years she made beautiful draperies, wedding dresses, clothing, costumes, evening apparel, sporting attire, and many other items. She was truly a Picasso of the sewing machine. She was once asked if there was anything you couldn't make on a sewing machine and her simple answer was no.

Jackie was considered by many to be our family historian and "keeper of the records". She took great pride and enjoyment knowing so many special facts and stories about those who we call family. Jackie had an incredible bond with her cousins, nieces, nephews and kept in close contact with them her entire life. Jackie was also known as being an incredible cook. She took great joy in making her famous chocolate chip cookies and watching her grandchildren beg for more when the container ran dry. Jackie also loved to help people and spent many hours ensuring the community's military service members were never forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mandoline Goebel; her brother, Joe Goebel; sister, Loyce Clements; sisters-in-law, Aiko and Rita; and grandson, Tyler Mazac.

She is survived by her brother, Vernon Goebel and wife, Martha, children, Tracey and husband, James O'Neil, Mason Brandes, and Angela Leschper, Stacy Brandes and wife, Kaarin, and Darren Brandes; grandchildren, Ashley Brandes, Charles "Charlie" Brandes Jr., Sydney Brandes, Joshua Brandes, Leah Brandes, Jarrett Brandes, Grayson Brandes, Jenna O'Neil, Jamie O'Neil, Mandelynn O'Neil; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Brandes, Liliana Aguilar, Maddison Aguilar, and Hali Sellers.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the various caregivers, friends, and family who provided the best care, moral support, and sacrificed so much for Jackie during these difficult times, especially Peggy Ruther, Don Krumpitz, Julia Johnston, Renee Gaskin, Steven Karakos, Diane Resendez, Angela Leschper, and the Veranda House in Sealy.

Jackie will be missed by countless nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 14, 2022, from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1140 Meyer Street, Sealy, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM followed by burial in the Sealy Cemetery.
