Bosse, Lillie Mae Abel
Obituary
2017
The Sealy News, October 13, 2017:

Lillie Mae Abel Bosse died Oct. 9, 2017 in Bellville, Texas at the age of 102. Lillie was born on Feb. 6, 1915 to Annie and Charlie Zachas in Cat Spring, Texas. She was confirmed and served as a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Cat Spring. She was married to Leonard Ida Abel on April 26, 1932 until his death on Oct. 12, 1971.

On Dec. 1, 1979, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas, she married Raymond Bosse, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2011. Lillie met both Leonard and Raymond at the Coshatta Agriculture Society Hall dance where she loved to polka and waltz.

Lillie attended the Cleveland Community School and frequently reminded the younger generations that she rode a horse to school and spoke primarily German. Although she spent the majority of her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker, she also worked in retail and floral shops as well as a sitter at the hospital to provide care for others.

Some of her favorite things to do included playing dominoes, gardening, cooking, baking, and looking through cookbooks for new recipes. Recipe clippings from newspapers and magazines filled her recipe books and several drawers in her kitchen. It was not unusual to come to her home and hear her say, "I made a new cake recipe today. I want you to try it. Let's have some coffee." This usually accompanied a game of 88, 80, 42, or straight dominoes. Gardening vegetables, planting pretty flowers, and canning were other labors of love that she enjoyed. She liked having a pretty yard and gave her plants personalities. When cold weather approached, she would often comment that she felt sorry for the plants and needed to get them inside "before they got cold." Or she'd water them and say that they "looked a lot happier."

Most of all, Lillie enjoyed being with family and friends. Whenever her children and grandchildren called her to make arrangements for an outing or dinner, she always responded, "I'll have my shoes on." On Oct. 9 at 8:13 a.m., the Lord called for Lillie to join Him in heaven and she responded, "I am ready. I have my shoes on."

Lillie's legacy spans five generations. She is survived by her four children, Charles Abel, Travis Abel and wife, Diane, Dolores Fojt, and Joy Mahaffey; as well as stepson, Don Bosse and wife, Adrienne, and step-daughter-in-law, Carol Bosse; twelve grandchildren, Debra Horwedel and husband, Ken, Loyce Pacher, Patti Sebesta and husband, Carl, Leonard "Buddy" Fojt and wife, Cheryl, Kathy Patrick-Maxwell and husband, Jamie, Scott Abel and wife, Wanda, Terri Nelson and husband, Donald, Jason Abel, Kristi Tindall and husband, Lance, McDavid (Mac) Mahaffey and his wife, Mary Ellen, Matthew (Bill) Mahaffey and wife, Alexandra, John Mahaffey and wife, Candace. Also included are her step-grandchildren, Jason Bosse and wife, Kim, Kyle Bosse and wife, Lauren, Sharon Lin and husband, Jesse, Susan Vasquez and husband, Erik. In all, 32 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren complete this remarkable woman's family tree.

Lillie's family and friends have been blessed to share in her long life. They want to thank the staff at Rose Hill Retirement Center and Compassionate Care Hospice with special thanks to nurses Sharon Graham and Stacey Kmiec who provided loving care and support as Lillie transitioned to her heavenly home. Thanks also to Dr. Don Bosse for many years of providing excellent care.
