Zaruba, Lawrence Charles
Obituary
2019
The Sealy News, January 7, 2018:

On January 2, 2019, Laurence Charles Zaruba was released from the burdens of life and went to be with the Lord. Laurence was born in Sealy, Texas on November 17, 1930 to Charles and Hermina Zaruba, both of whom together with sisters Florence Jankowski and Sylvia Bobo, preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Janet and Lauren; siblings, Franklin, Charleen, and Virginia; grandsons, Brooks, Zane, Evan, Nathanael, and Sean; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Clara, of 42 years.

Laurence had a strong personality and loved talking with people. He never met a stranger. He loved being with his family at gatherings, especially at Christmas and weddings. He loved and adored his grandsons, throwing a ball, reading a story and just being with them as they matured. He was an educator for well over 30 years coaching sports, classroom teaching, counseling, and being a school administrator. The next stage of his life was as a supervisor of testing with the federal government for a decade. In his youth, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was in combat in the Korean War.

He loved school all along from Sealy schools to graduation from the University of Texas at Austin and ultimately a doctorate of education from Nova Southeastern University. Politics was a favorite topic. He liked to discuss many issues he thought shaped the Nation. Over the years, he held membership in the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Semper Fi Society of Brazos Valley and a lifetime membership in the Texas Education Association. Following college sports, having a good meal, listening to polka music, just enjoying the Czech culture made his day.

Visitation and Rosary were held on Sunday, Jan. 6, in the Knesek Chapel on Highway 36 in Sealy. Services were held Monday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m. in the chapel. Interment with military honors followed at the gravesite.

Memorial contributions in Laurence's name may be made to Semper Fi Society of Brazos Valley, 6819 Patricia Ln, Katy, TX 77493 or ICC Church Re: Restoration of Family Church Bells, P.O. Box 337, Sealy, TX 77474.
