Obituary
2021
Joyce Schultz, 86 of Sealy, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in Bellville. Joyce Elaine Schultz was born to Jessie Allensworth and Everett Flake on June 28, 1935, born and raised in Chicago, Il. She attended Lutheran Schools with her brothers and was a cheerleader. Her dream was to go to college and become a nurse. Plans changed, she fell in love and married the man she would spend the next 67 years of her life with, Richard W. Schultz. After Richard's service in the Navy was complete, they packed up and moved to Texas. Joyce would get to follow her dream and go to school to become a nurse, while Richard worked two jobs to take care of the family.

Joyce did fulfill her dream and went to become a registered nurse. She worked for the V.A. a short time then made a career at Memorial Hermann Memorial City. She started as a floor nurse then went to the ICU and on to the Recovery Room. She became Director there and then went on to cover all of surgical services and was one of the first to bring in Hyperbaric. Her career spanned over 33 years at Memorial Hermann. She was loved by many of her coworkers of which four she stayed very close with after retirement in 2001.

Joyce loved her family; she raised three children with Richard, Steven, Pamela and husband, Erwin, and Rebecca Fitch and husband, Anthony. She has a granddaughter, Brenna McDaniel and husband, Joshua, and two great-granddaughters, Payton and McKinsey, and a brother, Raymond Flake.

Joyce and her family loved to go camping and were always going to a Texas State Park for most all vacations. She was the best camp cook and a pretty good fisherwoman. We have lots of memories of outdoor life from those trips.

After retirement, she loved traveling Texas and visiting Bed and Breakfasts with Richard. She loved to mow the yard and fish in the pond on the property. She would get together with her long-time friends, Bev, Sharon, and Gloria, and play Canasta.

She went to be with her Lord and Savior and her heavenly family that preceded her in death, her mother, Jessie, and father, Everett; the love of her life, husband, Richard; and her firstborn, Steve; and a sister, Bertie; and brother; Ronald. She will be missed by her family and friends. May she find her wings to be our guardian angel till we meet with her again.

A funeral service will be held at 8:00 AM on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel, 768 Fourth Street, Sealy, Texas. Burial will be in Millheim Cemetery.
