Gary Scherbig, of Sealy, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at HCA Heart Hospital in Houston at Clear Lake.
Gary was born in Cat Spring, Texas on January 2, 1935, the son of O.W. and Marguerite (Jeschke) Scherbig. He graduated from Sealy High School in 1953. Gary was a member of the Texas Sportsman’s Association, The Austin County Sportsman’s Association, and the National Rifle Association. Gary worked for the Texas Highway Department for over twenty years. Then he was employed at Katy Drilling/Layne Western and retired in 2000. Gary then became a rancher. Gary lived a very active and full of life. He loved the outdoors his whole life. Always hunting, fishing, camping, and cooking. He also entered many fishing tournaments over his lifetime. Didn’t matter if he won or not. Just being outdoors, having fun, and fishing with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmothers, Louise Scherbig Karasek, Lillie Jeschke; and his uncle, Roy Karasek. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Vicky Page and husband, David, Gary Scherbig, Jr. and wife, Valinda, Monte Shane Scherbig and wife, Gloria; sister, Lynn Ehler and husband, Alton; his guardian angel, granddaughter, Mandi Scherbig Hurta; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Also, five stepdaughters, Sherri, Laura, Theresa, Tammy, and Penny. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 24, 2021, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1140 Meyer Street, Sealy, Texas 77474. A funeral service will be held at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 25, 2021. Burial will be at Sealy Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, masks and social distancing required. May his legacy live on with the same joy, love of life, passion, and love of the outdoors in which he lived his life. |
