Horace Weaver, age 86 of Alvin, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Horace was born on January 27, 1928 in Wichita Falls, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for over 40 years. He graduated from Sealy High School in 1945 and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Geology from Texas A&M University in 1957. Horace served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Manvel Bible Chapel. Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Weaver; sisters, Effie Tasker, Lottie Roe, Lorena Halbritter, Alice Adkins, Francis Stevens, Catherine Kelly/Dunn and brother, Sherman E. Weaver. Horace is survived by his loving wife, Leona Weaver; daughters, Judy Wehe and husband, Nolan, Grace Underwood and husband, Rick, Jeanette Cavanaugh and husband, David; sons, Sherman Weaver and wife, Cheryl, Lance Weaver and wife, Sue, Joey Weaver and wife, Tracy, Shawn Weaver and wife, Caprice; sister, Joanne Cone; brother, Woodrow Wilson Weaver; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Horace had a zest for life. A long-time petroleum geologist and entrepreneur, Horace was always inventing and promoting new ideas. In addition to his serious side, Horace loved practical jokes. He was always planning and plotting his next big business deal or the way to pull off a joke on a close friend or family member. His jovial smile and the constant little twinkle in his eye will be forever cherished by his family Horace and Leona have been the anchor in so many people’s lives. On numerous occasions they opened their hearts and home to help someone in their time of need. Understanding and non-judgmental, they always welcomed everyone with open arms, and their firm guidance with a gentle hand has changed the course of many people’s lives. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 24, 2014 at Manvel Bible Chapel, 4230 FM 1128 Pearland, Texas 77584. Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M. Monday, February 24, 2014 at Hartsville Cemetery, Hartsville, Texas.
