Funeral Services for Leander H. Uhlig, 87, of Bernardo, were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 1996 from the Knesek Bros./Etlinger Funeral Chapel in Bellville with Rev. Willie Rotter officiating.

Interment was in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Cat Spring.

Mr. Uhlig passed away Thursday, March 7 in Katy.

Born March 20, 1908 in Bernardo Prairie (Colorado County), Leander Richard Herman Uhlig was the son of Otto and Adelheide (Froebel) Uhlig.

He was raised in Bernardo and attended Bretschneider Public School. He served in the U. S. Army Company C Maintenance Battalion 3rd Armored Division from February 1942 to October 1945 during W.W. 11.

On March 20, 1949, Mr. Uhlig and the former Miss Anita Krause were married in Bernardo. Leander dug water wells at an early age, worked part-time as a mechanic in Cat Spring and at home, repaired wind mills, worked as an electrician's helper as well as farming and ranching and was a member of Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Uhlig of Bernardo; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Liz Uhlig of Bernardo and his grandchildren, Trent Alan and Treavor Donald.
