John Monte Peden passed away on Wednesday, May 15, in Houston. He was born to Clem and Ruby Childress Peden on Dec. 6, 1935 in Overton, Texas. Monte graduated from Marshall (Texas) High School in 1954, and he attended East Texas Baptist College in Marshall. He then moved to Houston and worked for Cameron Iron Works. On Nov. 3, 1962, he married Joyce Muery at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. Monte enjoyed watching football and playing cards and dominos. He loved traveling, going on cruises and visiting every capitol building in the United States with his wife. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Muery Peden; son, Jay Peden of Lubbock; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Hans Geiger and two grandsons Ryan and Aaron Geiger of San Antonio; sister and brother-in-law, Minnie Van and Hughie Hayes of Cat Spring, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Nancy Muery of Sulphur, La. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Childress Peden and Clem Peden, and, his brother, Clem Henry Peden. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church; 7901 Westview; Houston, Texas 77055.
