Minks, Rosalie (Niver)
Obituary
2023
Rosalee Niver Minks passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Sodalis Assisted Living in Wharton, Texas. She joins her beloved husband Joe, who passed away on October 18, 2014. She was 89 years old.

Rosalee was born March 28, 1933, in the Krasna Community of East Bernard, Texas, to Joe and Emily Konvicka Niver. She was the second of four children and the only daughter. Rosalee grew up on a farm and attended school in Tavener for eight years, and graduated from East Bernard High School in 1950. She excelled in volleyball and softball and developed a lifelong love of competitive sports. Rosalee married Joe Minks on January 27, 1952, and settled in Wallis, Texas, where they eventually bought the family farm from Joe’s parents. Joe and Rosalee were blessed with six sons, who in turn were blessed with growing up on Minks farm.

Rosalee first entered the workforce as a teacher’s aide at Guardian Angel Catholic School when her youngest sons started school. She later held various positions in Wallis schools, ultimately becoming the Superintendent’s secretary and an active member of many civic organizations. She retired from Brazos ISD in 1991 and continued volunteer work with a special passion for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, of which she was a charter member for the Guardian Angel Catholic Church chapter.

Joe and Rosalee were blessed with 62 years of marriage. They spent countless hours in bleachers, stadiums, and sometimes lawn chairs watching their sons and, later, their grandchildren play ball. They were also true-blue fans of the Houston Texans, Rockets and Astros, and San Antonio Spurs. However, WWE Smackdown was their favorite television sport! In addition to sports, Joe and Rosalee liked to dance and belonged to the Wallis Dance Club for many years. They also enjoyed playing dominos and were members of a local club.

When Joe’s health declined, Rosalee became his tireless caregiver. She visited him faithfully every afternoon when he was in the nursing home, bringing goodies, keeping him company, and playing games to cheer him up. She would stay until he was ready for bed.

After Joe passed, Rosalee found solace in her life at Minks farm. She enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren and was very appreciative of her neighbors, Wanda and Freddie Engelbrecht and Adelina and Victor Hernandez. Her beloved cat, Muffin, was a constant companion. She loved to read and always had a book or two checked out of the library. She read the Houston Chronicle daily and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed keeping up with friends and family on Facebook using her trusty iPad.

A devoted and dedicated sister, mother, and grandmother, Rosalee will be missed by her brother, Joe Niver of Pleak, sister-in-law Ruth Niver of Tulsa, sons, and spouses, Joey and Denise of Orchard, Michael and Cheri of Dallas, Dennis and Kim of Austin, Robert and Mary of East Bernard, William and Rhonda of West Columbia, Ric and Bill of San Antonio and 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Along with her parents and husband, Rosalee is preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence and Howard Niver, and her beloved sister-in-law, Betty Jean Hruzek Niver.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knox Memorial Library, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, or the charity of your choice.
