Herman Edward (Sonny) was born on Nov. 7, 1928 in Houston, the son of Herman and Zelma Keisler Miller.

He graduated from Bellville High School in 1946 and entered the University of Texas in Austin. After graduating from Texas in 1951, he served his country for three years in the United States Navy receiving the Korean Service Medal. His most significant duty was aboard the U.S.S Hector.

“Sonny” joined his father as a partner in the Bellville Insurance Agency, Joe Ed Lynn became a partner in the agency following his father’s retirement. After several years of “computer headaches,” he decided to retire and live the good life - play golf, hunt, spend time with family and relax.

He was married to Joyce Pauls Harrell on February 26, 1965 at Calvary Baptist Church, Rosenberg.

He was a life long member of St Mary’s Episcopal Church, serving in various capacities; a twenty-five year member of the Lions Club; Austin County Fair Association; Bellville Hospital Authority; American Legion; the Veterans Association; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the coffee shop group at “Mewis Cafe.”

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Pauls Miller; daughter, Amy Miller Heussner and husband Michael of Hewitt; Mickey Harrell of Brenham and Eddie Harrell of Bellville. Grandchildren, Wade and Wesley Liescheski; Vlasta Silhavy of Angleton, Megan Heussner, Kendall Heussner, and Madelyn Heussner of Hewitt.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish, may make a memorial to: St. Mary’s Episcopal Memorial Fund, 24 N. Masonic, Bellville, Texas 77418, or Austin County University of Texas-Ex Students Associations, c/o Wells Fargo Bank, 2 E. Main, Bellville, or to charity of their choice.
