Donnal Hugh McCarn (aka Don), 81, of Tomball, passed away Aug. 14, 2013 at the Heartland Nursing Home, in Houston.

Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Pawnee Cemetery, in Pawnee, Bee County, Texas at 11 a.m. Service arrangements are being handled by Eckols Funeral Home in Kenedy, Texas – 830-583-2533.

Don was born on March 20, 1932, to Hugh Douglas and Dovie Jewell “Bill” Phillips McCarn, in Pawnee, Texas. About 1937, the family moved to Port Lavaca, where Don started school. Don met the love of his life in Port Lavaca schools, and soon he and Betty Jean Patrick became an item.

In March 1951, Don joined the US Air Force to do his part in the Korean Conflict. While home on Thanksgiving leave after boot camp, he and Betty were married on Nov. 26, 1951 at the First Methodist Church, in Port Lavaca. After the honeymoon, he was stationed in England, where Betty soon joined him. While there they had their first son, Donald Hugh, Jr.

When Don got out of the USAF in 1955, he worked for Union Carbide for a short period. Going to Texas A&M College was a priority for him. The family spent a few short years in Aggie Land while Don got his degree in Industrial Education, graduating in 1958. During the time in College Station, his and Betty’s second son, Dennis John, was born.

Don moved his family to Corona, N.M. to work as a school teacher. Shorty after that, he landed a position with Lufkin Industries in Lufkin. He spent several years in Lufkin, and their daughter, Kerisa Ann, was born. From here he and the family moved to Oklahoma City, Okla., Great Bend, Kan., back to Oklahoma City, and Sheffield Lake, Ohio. The family moved to Conroe after Betty was diagnosed with cancer. Don went to work for the International Division/Houston of Lufkin Industries where he traveled extensively in the Middle East. They moved to Bellville in 1981 and Betty passed away in 1982.

Don married Jane Barnett in Quinlan, Texas. They lived in Bastrop, Bellville and finally Port Lavaca. At the onset of Dementia, Don moved to Marble Falls to be near Kerisa who lived in Austin. From there he moved to the Temple V.A. Nursing Home, then to Tomball.

Don is survived by his sons, Don, Jr. and wife, Beth McCarn of Sealy; Dennis John and wife, Kim McCarn of Anacortes, Washington; daughter, Kerisa Ann and Eddie Storey of Cypress; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Ray McCarn of Port Lavaca; sister, Lynda Sue and husband, Walter Breeding of Madisonville, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
