A funeral mass for Betty Marek, 74, of Stafford, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City with Fr. Sunny Joseph officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. later that afternoon at the Krasna Cemetery, near Wallis, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2014 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Betty was born November 28, 1939 in East Bernard, Texas to Louis and Rosie (Stropek) Melnar. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a Charter Member of Catholic Daughters of America Court, Holy Family #2060, and a lifetime member of KJZT Society #120, St. Bernadette, Sugar Land. When Betty's four daughters, Lou Ann, Carol, Judy and Kay, were younger, Betty was the Girl Scout Cookie Chair Mom for each of their troops. She dedicated her time to her daughters and grandsons schools and activities. She liked cooking, sewing and doing various crafts. When her daughters were school age, she worked in the cafeteria for Alief ISD and Stafford MSD Schools for 14 years. She and her husband, John, also enjoyed going to Polka Festivals. Betty passed away May 30, 2014 in Sugar Land, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Baby Girl Marek; and brothers, Bennie, Victor and Stanley Melnar.

Betty is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Peter Marek; daughters, Lou Ann Mowka and husband, Stephen, Carol Prokop and husband, Patrick, Judy Dunmire and husband, David and Kay Marek and husband, Alex Munguia; sister, Leona Carlson and husband, Dr. Rodger Carlson; and grandchildren, Aaron Paul Munguia and Trenton Joseph Prokop; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


Pallbearers serving are Steven Beall, Dennis King, Leo Marek, Joseph Marek, George McKinzie, Raymond McKinzie.

Honorary Pallbearers are Aaron Munguia, Trenton Prokop, Stephen Mowka, Patrick Prokop, David Dunmire and Alex Munguia.
