Kluna Helen L. (Koehne) Kluna, 80, of Cat Spring passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, in Bryan after a courageous battle with cancer. Helen was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Houston the daughter of Walter Frank and Lela Mae (Hopper) Koehne. She grew up in Houston graduating from Milby High School. Helen obtained her certification and became a deputy for the Austin County Sheriff’s Department. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Texas in Austin, working there for 12 years. On Oct. 23, 1982, Helen was united in marriage with Al G. Kluna in Hempstead. They have made their home in Cat Spring. Helen was a longtime member of the American Business Women’s Association. She enjoyed needle point, bowling and fishing. She is survived by her husband Al G. Kluna of Cat Spring. daughter Deanna Louise Ling and husband and, Neil, also of Cat Spring; sons Deacon Robert Kent and wife, Debbie, of Sealy, Bradley Kent and wife Maggie of Bellville, and Christopher L. Kent of Houston; 10 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren and many other relatives and dear friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Frank and Lela Mae Koehne, and her brother, William Koehne. Visitation was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville. Memorial Service followed at 7 p.m., with Deacon Robert Kent officiating.
