On January 24, 1946 a child was born to the union of Fred and Savannah Swearington and they named him James Madison Swearington. He received his education from Clemmons Elementary and Ralph J. Bunche High School in Pattison, Texas. He was initiated into the New Farmers of America (NFA) and was one of 26 candidates to receive this degree. James graduated in 1965; he was educated in engineering and attended theology school. James accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Willie Powell of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He united in marriage with Wilma Lewis and to this union three daughters were born. He later moved to Houston, TX and met and married Zelma Hutchison and to this union four children were born. On June 21, 1991 he united in matrimony to Cynthia Jennings until his home going. He was called to the ministry in 1985. James founded and pastored Mt. Nebo Community Church in Sealy, Texas for 13 years, and his father in the ministry was the late Harry Knowles of Mt. Corinth of McNair, TX. After his health started failing him, he joined and became a member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lee Nelson Jones of Brookshire, TX.

James departed this life to go and be with the Lord on May 14, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Swearington; mother, Savannah Swearington; brothers: Clarence, Freddie, Eddie, and Leon Swearington; sisters: Justine Randle (George) and Margie Douglas (Murphy); son-in-law, Larry Robertson; Grandson, Nicholas Davis; Father-in-law, Banks Richard, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 22 years, Cynthia Swearington; children: Janice Robertson; Paula Tillman (Doug); Beverly Williams (Ronald); Vickie Brooks; Karen Smith (George Willie, Jr.); Michelle Davis; Rochelle Jones (Don); Deā€™Andre Taylor (Ronnie); Joseph Reed; Robert Lewis (Tish); Joseph Ray (Denise); Lawrence Swearington; sister-in-law, Myrtle Swearington; goddaughters: Tish Lewis, Denetra Manuel, Sharla Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, cousins, 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
