Brune, CPL Herbert James (1921-2016)
Brune, Herbert James
Obituary
2016
Herbert was born November 23, 1921 in Sealy, Texas to Herbert and Lula Brune. He graduated from Sealy High School and later enlisted in World War II. He was a member of the 43rd Bomb Group, 65th Squadron and was stationed primarily in the Philippines, and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal Asiatic – Pacific Medal with four 4 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and a Good Conduct Medal.

After WWII, he returned to Sealy and farmed. He met Marie Washam and they married in 1952. They had one daughter, Carolyn Marie, and one son, James Edward, who died shortly after birth from a heart defect.

He farmed in the Sealy area all his life. He was a member of the Austin County Soil and Water Conversation District and served 29 years. He was a member of the American Legion for 45 years, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Austin County Livestock Association, and was a member of the East Bernard Mason Lodge 817 for 9 years. Last year, he received the Golden Trowel Award.

In his 40's, he came into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the friendship of a hunting buddy. His favorite hymn is "There Is Power In The Blood" because he came to know such peace after this decision. He has been a member of First Baptist Church, Sealy, for over 45 years.

In his retirement, he and Marie traveled quite a bit, attending many of the WWII Army reunions in such places as New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Kansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Florida. He enjoyed visiting with friends from his war days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lula Brune, and his infant son, James Edward.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Carolyn Gribble and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, and Samuel Gribble; and sister, Joyce Nastoupil.

Herbert was a faithful, loving husband, a best friend to his daughter, a role model, teacher, and support to his grandchildren, and a faithful friend. He was a man of his word, but he was also a good listener. He helped many a friend going though "deep waters" by listening. He loved to work the land and this kept him vibrant into his 90's. He is greatly loved and will be missed deeply.
