Evelyn Sliva Wilke passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Cinco Ranch Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Katy, Texas after a lengthy illness. She joins her beloved husband Erwin, who passed away on September 20, 2022. She was 86 years old.
Evelyn was born on June 25, 1936, in Wallis, Texas to Willie B. and Florence Sliva. She was valedictorian of the 1955 graduating class of Wallis High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Erwin Wilke, on March 19, 1955, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis. Evelyn was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crocheting needlepoint, and various arts and crafts. She had a keen eye for detail and all her work was exceptional. She was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She was also a long-time member of the Wallis Extension Homemakers Club, receiving numerous Grand Champion awards at the Austin County Fair for her handiwork. Evelyn enjoyed weekly league bowling in Rosenberg and then Sealy for over 25 years. She also spent many Sundays at Lake Sommerville water skiing with family and friends, as well as weekly bingo in Wallis. Evelyn and Erwin enjoyed socializing and were members of the Wallis Dance Club and the local domino club for many years. Evelyn was a devoted Grammy who enjoyed babysitting and spending time with her four grandchildren who loved her dearly. It was a special treat when they visited and went to bingo with her. She enjoyed attending school activities for her local grandchildren Brooke and Billy and making special trips to visit her out-of-state grandchildren Shanna and Nikki. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Albert Zajicek. She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie McCain of Wallis, Donna Schrock and husband Kelly of Orange, and Lisa Nicholson and husband James of Katy; grandchildren Shanna Hulyk and husband Derek of Pearland, Dr. Nicole Ruggles and husband Dr. Patrick Ruggles of Longview, Brooke Nicholson of Houston, and Billy Nicholson of College Station; great-grandchildren Cora Ruggles, Charlie Ruggles, and Connor Hulyk; and sister Helen Sliva of Wallis. https://www.knesekfuneralhome.com/obituary/evelyn-wilke |
