Funeral services for Hugo Hartmann, 77, of Cat Spring were held Friday, April 20, 2001 from the Knesek Bros./Etlinger Funeral Chapel in Bellville with Rev. David Hambrick officiating. Interment was in the Cat Spring Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Dwayne Hartmann, Olin Hartmann, Arthur Wilke, Herbert CAT SPRING CEMETERY aka Kollatschny, Norman Martens, Jr. and Gordon Goebel.

Honorary pallbearers were Albert Silva, Carl Hartmann, Edmond Hartmann and nephews and nieces.

Hugo was born in Cat Spring to parents Willie and Augusta (Joseph) Hartmann. He was raised in Cat Spring. He left home in the mid-40’s to work at Gear Wrench Manufacturing in Houston. There he met his wife to be, Miss Frieda Ella Richter. They were married in September of 1947. Then in the early 50’s he and his brother bought a small parcel of land at the corner of 1094 and 949 and built the Cross Roads Tavern. He later sold this to pursue farming and ranching. Later he went to work for Superior Furniture, Schier Feed and then to the County from which he retired. He always had a beautiful garden which he enjoyed working in. He enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren when they came to stay. He loved hunting and fishing, hunting being his favorite.

Mr. Hugo Carl Hartmann died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in Bellville.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Hajdek and son-in-law, Virgil of Sealy; sons, Robert Hartmann and daughter-in-law Helen of Cat Spring. Sisters, Anita Martens and husband Lee of Cat Spring, and Edna Janosky of Cat Spring, Grandchildren, Dwayne and Luwayne Hartmann, Jill and Gretchen Hajdik.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Augusta Hartmann, wife, Frieda Ella (Richter) Hartmann, and brother, Alfred Hartmann.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department or to the charity of choice.
