Robert Paul Linberger peacefully passed away on Oct. 23, 2013 in Bellville. Bob was born in Norristown, PA on May 2, 1927 to James Henry and Ruth Gamble Linberger. He forewent his high school graduation ceremonies to enlist in the U. S. Navy and serve his country during World War II. After the war, Bob attended Pierce Business School (now Pierce College) in Philadelphia. During this time, he met and fell in love with Georgine Bossert, and they wed in North Wales, PA on November 5, 1949. Following graduation in 1950, he joined the Department of the Navy as a civilian accountant.

After accepting a position at NASA in 1962 Bob, Georgie, and daughters Jane and Nancy moved to Deer Park. At the fledgling Manned Spacecraft Center, he assisted in the establishment of the financial operations as part of the team that enabled man to reach the Moon. He devoted the remaining 17 years of his civilian career to honing the financial and budgetary processes at what was later renamed the Johnson Space Center. Bob was honored to work tirelessly with thousands of others to achieve one of the most significant human accomplishments of the 20th Century.

In addition to his professional public service, he also served Deer Park first as a city councilman for eight years and then for two terms as mayor, from 1977 to 1981, being the first mayoral candidate to run unopposed in the history of Deer Park. His financial background and passion for the community served to enhance the city’s quality of life. Bob played a significant role in the design and development of Deer Park’s improved infrastructure. He was a consummate public servant, who emphasized the service component of his role to others. Bob was not afraid of debate, always stood firm on principles and was proud of what was accomplished on his watch.

Bob dearly loved Georgie, his wife of 52 years, their daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brother and his family and enthusiastically supported them all. He exhibited love for his family through teasing, wisdom and advice. He was honored to serve as the Best Man at his grandson Garrett’s wedding in 2009. Bob’s brother, Alan, shared Bob’s patriotism and commitment to service and the brothers remained very close. Bob and Georgie were long-time members of Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, where Bob served his church as he served his country and his community, serving on church council many times.

Bob is pre-deceased by his parents and Georgie. He is survived by loving daughters Jane (Troy) Humphries of Seabrook and Nancy (Robert) Dornon of Bellville; adored grandchildren Nicole (Sean) McDonald of Waunakee, WI, Joshua (Michelle) Humphries of Seabrook, Greg Dornon of Sarasota, FL, Garrett (Shannon) Dornon of Bellville, Andrew Dornon of Austin, and Austin Dornon of College Station; precious great-grandchildren Connor Dura, Landon Maness, Molly McDonald and Wyatt Dornon; beloved brother, Alan (Cathey) Linberger, Virginia Beach, VA and dear nieces Meredith Hummel and Kimberly Vaughn and their families. Bob’s memory will live on in the many lives he touched.

Visitation will be held November 2, 2013 at Grand View Funeral Home 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, TX from 1-3 PM with funeral service immediately following at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Bob’s conservative and service-oriented nature, the family requests donations to the hospital that so gently cared for Georgie, Bellville Hospital Auxiliary, 44 N Cummings Rd Bellville 77418 or the charity of your choice.
