Delphine Gus Schilling, 87, widower of Gladys Schilling, passed away Aug. 29, 2013 in Bellville. Funeral services were scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastors Phil Fenton and Kindleee Lund officiating, Burial followed in Emmanual Lutheran Church Cemetery in Greenvine, with full military honors by the Brenham Honor Guard. Visitation was from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Delphine Schilling was born March 2, 1926 in Winedale to Adolph and Olga Makowsky Schilling. He attended school in the Burton area, and served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. On Dec. 21, 1950, he married Gladys Mertz. Employed as a painter for 52 years, he spent over 40 years at Blinn College, not only painting, but being a mentor to all his “Blinn boys”. Delphine enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and most of all, treasured time spent with his family.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Terri Schilling of Austin, and Glen and Sharon Schilling of Richmond; daughter and son-in-law Janice and Eugene Gaskamp of Bellville; grandchildren: Amy Pieper and husband Jason of Bellville, Marcus Gaskamp and wife Miranda of Tulsa, OK., and Laura Schilling of Flagstone, Australia; great-grandchildren: Rick Cano, Michael Cano, Eric Cano, and Gwendolyn Gaskamp; brothers and sisters-in-law Melvin and Dorothy Schilling, and LeeRoy and Pauline Schilling; sister Vernell Mertz, and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Winkelmann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Olga Schilling, wife, Gladys Schilling, sister-in-law Neville Schilling, brother-in-law Willie Mertz, brother-in-law Reinhardt Winkelmann, and sister and brother-in-law, Elda and Bennie Gajeske.

Serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Gajeske, Donald Winkelmann, Norman Winkelmann, Johnny Dobecka, Weldon Krause, Weldon Hartman, Bruce Fuedenberg, Calvin Krause, Greg Weidner, and Dale Mertz. Honorary pallbearers are “all the boys from Blinn”.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, or to Bellville Hospital Foundation.
