Lifetime Austin County resident Olin Hartmann, 77, passed away at the Truecare Living Center in Columbus on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Memorial services will he held on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring, Pastor Kevin Haug officiating.

Olin was born to parents Arthur Hartmann and Lodema Bischoff Hartmann in Cat Spring on Sept. 17, 1935.

He started school in Cat Spring and later went to school in Sealy. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring and later became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy.

Olin never married and was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Laverna Grebe and husband Norris, Ora Dell Hartmann, Dorcie Strauss and husband Wilbert Dale, and Willie Mae Smith. A nephew Donnie Grebe also predeceased him.

A sister and her husband Herbert survive Olin along with nieces and nephews Lori Grebe Howard, Karla Rice and husband Dayne, Terri Strauss Brasher and husband John, John Strauss and wife Jodie, Danny Strauss, Stanley, Tracy Gray, Kristi Snyder and husband Brandon, Kim Smith Derrick, and Travis Smith, Jr.

He was a farmer-rancher and did custom farm services in the Cat Spring area.

Olin was a member of the Cat Spring Agricultural society where he served as president, the Austin County Game and Fish Protective Association where he was a director, life member of the National Rifle Association, the Austin County Livestock Association and a member of the round table at Tony’s Restaurant in Sealy.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt with deer season a special time in his life.
