Shupak

Evelyn Irene (Harbes) Shupak was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Wichita Falls. Her parents are Rev. Jacob Harbes and Eda (Wiese) Harbes. She moved to El Campo when she was three-years-old and graduated from El Campo High School in 1946. Evelyn also attended Durham Business College in Houston.

She married James Hutchinson and had three children, Jacquelyn, Gary, and Glenn. Evelyn later married Elgin Shupak and moved to Nelsonville. She was active in PTA, a room mother, assisted in the school library, and a Girl Scout Leader when her children were young.

After moving to Nelsonville, Evelyn delivered Meals on Wheels and participated in Christian Sisters. She was a member of Nelsonville Brethren Church. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, and gardening.

Evelyn is survived by her sister Edith Bard of El Campo; Children Jacquelyn Byrne of Centerville and Glenn Hutchinson, his wife Heron of Houston; and grandson Hunter Hutchinson.

Preceded in death by her parents, husbands James Hutchinson and Elgin Shupak, son Gary Hutchinson, sisters Ruth Francis, Ethel Shephard, brothers Leonard, Herman, Earl, Jesse, Daniel, and Melvin Harbes.

Visitation was held from 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at the Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville. Funeral service followed at 10 a.m. with Reverend Michael Groseclose officiating. Interment was held Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery, in Houston.
