Veadth Odelia Goodnight of Columbus was born 100 years ago in Salado on Nov. 6, 1912, the daughter of Jessie C. Fuller and Ora Lula (Townzen) Fuller. She passed away peacefully on May 28, 2013 in Columbus. Veadth graduated from high school in Salado, Bell County.

She married James Arthur Goodnight on Oct.r 26, 1932 and they made their home in the Belton/Temple area. For many years, Veadth sold Avon and was a part-time sales clerk. She lived 30 years in Columbus and many previous years in Bellville. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Columbus and Bellville.

Veadth leaves us with many stories, experiences, knowledge and love of her family. She was a self-taught artist and loved to paint pastoral scenes. Also, she loved needle point and especially doing pillows for her grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling in the RV camper with Art around Colorado, Texas, and many other places.

Veadth is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth “Bitty” Wendt and husband C.W. of Columbus and Barbara Ratjen and husband Charles of Brazoria; son, James A. Goodnight and wife Ona Lee of Bellville; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Goodnight, Sr., her parents, Jessie C. and Ora Lula (Townzen) Fuller, and three sisters, Ganelle Goodnight, Lorene Paulk, and Ruby Bradford.

Visitation was Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 6-8 p.m., and Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

Funeral services was Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home with the Minister of the Milam Street Church of Christ, Wesley C. Cogburn, officiating.

Interment followed in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Ray Wendt, Clarence “Butch” Wendt, Jr., Randy Wendt, Charles “Chuck” Ratjen, Jr., Darrell Ratjen, Alan Ratjen, and James Michael Goodnight.
