Waldo Bernhard Goeke, 76, of the New Wehdem community, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at home after a long battle with heart disease. He was born April 30, 1927 to Henry and Alice (Wiecker) Goeke. He was baptized June 26, 1927 at Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. Waldo married Angelie Meyer at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville Oct. 19, 1947. He was a lifelong resident of Austin County except for the time he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II overseas in Germany. Waldo loved the outdoors, tending to his cattle operation and hay making. He received the Austin County Conservation Rancher Award in 2003.

He leaves to survive his wife of over 56 years Angelie Meyer Goeke; daughter, Kathryn Buck and husband Curtis; son, Charles Goeke and wife Vickie; grandchildren, Landon Buck, Brandon Goeke and wife Courtney, Brianne Goeke and husband Troy Addicks, Marissa Buck and husband Cliff Rudloff, Brooke Goeke and dear friend Chris Krueger and Brandt Goeke and dear friend Stephanie Holtkamp.

The Goeke family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Pastor Sid Bohls will officiate. Burial will follow in the Germania Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Troy Addicks, Landon Buck, Brandon Goeke, Brandt Goeke, Cliff Rudloff and Dwayne Wiecker.

Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem or Hospice of Brenham.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice-Brenham branch for the loving care they provided Waldo during his stay at home.

Funeral services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham.
