Edd served in the United States Army during World War II from January of 1943 to February of 1946. He fought in Normandy, Northern France with his twin brother, Fred, by his side. He received two Bronze Stars for his service. In later years, the one thing he would always mention of his time in Normandy was being in a foxhole with Fred and the artillery hitting all around them at night. After returning home he worked as a truck driver for the Houston Lighting and Power Company where he retired after 30 years of service.

Edd met the love of his life, Clara Pampell, at a dance and they were married on June 16, 1965 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston. They were always by each others side throughout their married life. Their love of dancing continued throughout their life together until their failing health prevented them from attending.

Edd loved the outdoors and spent many hours at his brother Fred’s land in Wesley helping clear brush and just enjoying the countryside. He also loved his little dogs that he had throughout his life which he always named Coco.

Edd is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Fred Gerstenberger and wife, Carmen, brother, Bill and wife, Allene and sister, Lucille Gerstenberger Kunkel and husband, Kenneth.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Clara, a brother, Benny Gerstenberger and wife, Colleen of Richmond and brother-in-law, Edward Pampell and wife, Lavern of Giddings. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy with Pastor Gil Franke presiding. Viewing was held one hour prior at the church.

For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy, Texas.
