David E. Hansen, 70, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed into the arms of his Savior on Aug. 12, 2011, in his country home in New Ulm, after a courageous battle with lymphoma cancer.

David was born in Manitowoc, Wis. on Feb. 14, 1941. He was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc and was active in class leadership roles and school organizations. He is an alumnus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. Dave's career encompassed management and retail representation for the steel industry to the Houston area and the Gulf Coast Region.
Dave was focused on civic duty, which was illustrated by his dedication and service as a member of the Alief School Board and additional community organizations.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Leona Hansen of Manitowoc. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Deborah Gregory Hansen; his children Laura Lee Cane of Sugar Land, David E. Hansen, Jr. of New Ulm, and Gregory C. Sanford of Denton; and grandchildren Dusty Jester and Tyler Hansen of New Ulm and Christina Cane of Sugar Land. He is also survived by one sister, Gerene Hansen Beckley of Frederick, Md.

Dave received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday 1983, and sought the divine will of God for the rest of his life. He was an active member in his church and served in many capacities.

After retirement, Dave enjoyed life as a country gentleman filling his time with family, golf, music and his beloved dog, Bogey.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Memorial Hermann- Texas Medical Center and caregivers of Columbus Community Hospital Home Health Agency, Caring Hands Agency and Hospice Brazos Valley Agency.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

A memorial service and celebration of Dave's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Henneke Funeral Home, Columbus, to be followed by interment at the New Ulm Cemetery, New Ulm.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions in Dave's name be made to either of the following: Building Fund for Believer's World Outreach Church, P.O. Box 5449, Katy, TX 77491.

Donations may also be made to the Hansen Family Scholarship, with checks payable to Hansen Family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hansen, Attn: Hansen Family Scholarship, 1502 Michigan Ave., Manitowoc, WI 54220

The Hansen Family Scholarship was started by Paul "Biff" and Sheila Hansen in 1988, to pay tribute to the memory of the Hansen Family of Manitowoc Wi. At least one $500 scholarship is awarded each year to a Lincoln High School, music/athletic graduate. A music/athletic student is chosen because of the Hansen family history and the importance of being a "Renaissance man or woman."
Funeral arrangements are under direction of Henneke Funeral Home of Columbus.
