Bellville Times

Hettie Almyra Falk was born to John and Alice Washam on Aug. 5, 1928 in Buckhorn. She passed away on March 25, 2014.

She grew up in Buckhorn and attended Buckhorn Public School. She married Trenckman D. Falk on March 14, 1949 in Bellville. Hettie was a member of First Baptist Church – Bellville.

Hettie and Trenckman made their home in Bellville where she enjoyed being a homemaker and mom.

Hettie’s children enjoy recalling her numerous attributes. They remember the way she loved and cared for them. They remember her green thumb and how she enjoyed taking care of her plants and flower beds. Some of the happy memories include singing with her and looking forward to the big Sunday dinners she prepared for them.

Hettie was an excellent seamstress and she used these skills in her profession, having worked outside the home in both the clothing and furniture industry. She also crocheted, did needlepoint and quilted. Each of her grandchildren received a baby quilt that was designed and quilted just for them.

Being blessed with a giving nature, she shared home cooked meals with neighbors that were lonely, in need, or in poor health. In her later years she enjoyed her weekly trips to the local nursing homes where she sang with a Gospel group. But mainly she cherished her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. How she enjoyed watching and playing with them!

The memories shared with Hettie will live on in the hearts of all that knew her.
