Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn (Goebel) Schluens, 76, of the Millheim Community, were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 from the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with Pastor Ann Ward Officiating, assisted by Pastor Willie Rotter. Interment was in the Millheim Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Kising (?), Randall Tipp, Alan Hillboldt, Ron Fitch, Ricky Kloss and Jeff Kloss.

Mrs. Schluens died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1992 at her home at the age of 76 years, two months and 19 days.

She was born Nov. 30, 1915 in Millheim, the daughter of Julius and Antonie (Suhr) Goebel.

She attended the Millheim Public School. She loved music and as a young woman, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing with the Herrings (?) Orchestra.

On Nov. 18, 1935, she married Fred Schluens in Millheim in the house where she was born.

Mrs. Schluens lived her entire lifetime in Millheim. When her children were schoolaged, she was an active member and past president of the local and tri-county PTA. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville, the Millheim Harmonie Hall Women's Auxiliary, the Sons of Hermann, and a member and former secretary of the Millheim Cemetery Association.

Survivors include: Husband, Fred Schluens of Millheim; children, Fay and Shannon D. Johnson of Bellville, Nila Kay and Lloyd Klaus of Cat Spring, Lola Ann and Dennis Landua of Bellville and Karen Sue and Bob McGill of Carlsbad, N.M.; grandchildren, Ted and India Higginbotham, Mary Beth Higginbotham, Beverly Donnell, Roy Klaus, Ryan Klaus, Paul Landua, John Landua, Matt McGill and Clay McGill;
great-grandchildren, Sean and Megan Higginbotham and Michael and Kimmie Donnell; and many other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation or to St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville.
