Our beautiful mother, Grace Joyce Hillebrand Nichols Mumme, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 in her home town of Bellville. After a successful vigilant fight with breast cancer in 1973, she beat the odds for 36 years to have it return in 2009. Throughout her time of treatment, and although often times difficult, Grace continued to keep her faith. The love and never ending support of her family would continue to keep her spirits uplifted. Grace was born Dec. 15, 1925 to Mary Malonie Schroeder Hillebrand and Harry Reinhardt Hillebrand in Sealy. She attended the Hacienda School in Sealy, graduated and began her career in accounting at a local bank. She was the oldest of three brothers, Otis (deceased), Wesley (deceased) and Marion Hillebrand. After moving to Houston with her family, Grace met and later married George Thomas Nichols (deceased), together, they had six children. Grace would continue her career as a bookkeeper in Houston to eventually return to Sealy until she retired at the age of 57. While working part time at The Flower Shop in Sealy, she met and married Bellville City Administrator, Mr. John Mumme (retired). Grace and John have been married for 25 years. Together, Grace and John developed a wonderful life filled with supporting The Chamber of Commerce at various Chair levels including Ribbon Cutting and judging many town contests. They enjoyed many hobbies such as golfing, hunting, attending local dances, gardening and spending time with family. Grace is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mary Hillebrand, first husband George Nichols, son George Nichols, Jr. and brothers Otis and Wesley Hillebrand. Grace is survived by her youngest brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Delores Hillebrand, her eight children: George Thomas Nichols, Jr. (deceased), Wayne Bernard Nichols, Linda Marie Nichols Dalton, Tracey Lynn Nichols Faterkowski, Richard Wayne Nichols, Georgina Grace Nichols Patrick, Carolyn Sue Mumme Brazell, Bonny Mumme Zitnik and Peggy Mumme Gaston, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 grea-great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel, Bellville. Grace’s Funeral was hosted at the Bellville United Methodist Church, Friday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. where she and John Mumme have been members for 25 years. Posted by Bruce White |
