He is preceded in death by his grandson Rusty Higgins, his parents Ben and Martha (Pfeffer) Dahse, Sister and brother-in-law Hannah and Rudy Sturm, Sister-in-law Gracie Dahse, Brother Charles Dahse, nephews Larry Wayne Dahse, and Chris Johnson.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Steven Higgins; grandson and wife, James (Jim) and Alyssa Higgins, grandson Blake Higgins, grandson Jeff Higgins, sisters Shirley Hatcher and Kathy Johnson; brothers Bennie Dahse and Larry Dahse, great-granddaughter Oakleigh Higgins, special friends Lori Gaines, Kellie Fitch, his dog Annabell, special niece Shawn Grimm and husband Bret Grimm, special nephews Bentley and Tanner Grimm and other nieces, nephews, great niece, and cousins.

Verdis was drafted into the US Army on March 6, 1968. He did a tour of duty in Vietnam.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing dominos, hanging out at the Kenney Store with friends, and having a few beers. He enjoyed working at Four Counties Auction Barn until he retired.

He always enjoyed listening to old county music, polkas and waltzes on the radio and passed that love on to his grandson Rusty.

He was a longtime Houston Astros fan. He took his daughter Robin to many games when she was young and then attended games with his grandchildren.

As he grew older, his family became the most important thing in his life. He went on many family vacations to the beaches of Florida and South Padre Island. During those vacations, he enjoyed sitting on the beach during the day, people-watching, and playing family games like cards, dominos, and Pictionary in the evenings. He also enjoyed the evenings out, listening to live music and having a few drinks. He even went to a few Nascar races at the Texas Motor Speedway with his family.

He thoroughly enjoyed his weekend visits with his sister Shirley, his niece, and her family Shawn, Bret, Bentley, and Tanner.
