Zapalac, Edith (-2022)
Obituary
2022
Edith (Edi) Zapalac was born in East Bernard, Texas on August 28, 1930 to Annie and Clement Vecera. She grew up in East Bernard, Texas and married the love of her life, Wille P. Zapalac, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard on February 22, 1949. Willie P. and Edi were married for over 70 years and had two children, Danny and Yvonne. Together with their children, they made their home in Sealy and were members of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Edi worked for the Nastoupil family for over 30 years at Ray's Pharmacy and, after retiring from Ray's, helped at The Flower Shop in Sealy. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the American Legion and spent countless hours during her lifetime volunteering for these organizations. Edi loved to watch game shows and Astros baseball, go Polka dancing, play cards, and you would never find a bingo game within a 50-mile radius that she missed. If they weren't at bingo, she and Willie P. would spend their afternoons sitting in lawn chairs watching all that went on from their front porch. As her grandchildren grew and great-grandchildren joined the family, she loved doting on each one. She was always waiting for a hug and had a chair front and center at all their sporting events, band concerts, and dance recitals. She was their number one fan and they were hers.

Edi passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in Sealy, Texas.

Edi is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Zapalac; son, Danny Zapalac and wife, Susan; siblings, Bea Stezel, Judy Rosentreter, Marianne Light, Victor Vecera; granddaughters, Tracie (Eckelberg) and husband, Chad, Amy (Haikenwaelder) and husband, Jason, and Katie (Baird) and husband, Wes; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emma, Emersyn, Abigail, Stephen, Joseph, Cheyenne, Logan, Landen, and Hayley; great-great-grandchildren, Weston and Garrett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edi is preceded in death by her husband, Willie P.; parents, Annie and Clement Vecera; sisters, Eleanor and Lily; and brothers, Clem and Adolph.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm Friday, April 22, at the Knesek Highway 36 Chapel in Sealy, with the rosary recited at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 23, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with interment followed at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Sealy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy.
