Donald Gene (Charlie) Brokmeyer was born July 14, 1955 to Isedore and Doris (Haverlah) Brokmeyer in Columbus, Texas. He passed away October 13, 2013. After a great morning and early afternoon with his children and grandchildren, he laid down for his daily nap and entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior.

Donald was baptized on October 23, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of New Ulm and confirmed at St. John’s Luthern Church of New Ulm on June 8, 1969. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s and past council member and treasurer.

Donald attended Columbus schools and graduated in 1973. He had just celebrated his 40th class reunion the day before his death. Shortly after graduation, he completed his painters apprenticeship and began his lifelong career in the commercial painting business. He was the current owner of Brokmeyer Painting, Inc.

Donald was a jack of all trades. He could always fix or repair anything. He loved horseback riding, was a member of the Salt Grass Trail Ride Association and rode the Salt Grass Trail Ride for over 30 years. He was also very active with the Sons of Hermann Lodge #70 and served as its President for the past 18 years. He absolutely loved spending time at the farm with his cattle and his most faithful companion, Duke. Wherever Donald was, Duke was on the back of the truck with him. Every morning, you would see Duke on the back of that truck in front of The Texas Star Café.

Donald loved to have a good time and really enjoyed to kick up his heels and dance. He was a great dance partner, per his daughters and many friends.

Most importantly, Donald’s pride and joy were his children and his grandchildren. Time spent with them was very important and precious to him, so it was only fitting that they were all together, having fun on the day of his passing. Donald’s legacy will live on through them.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson, Gabriel Brokmeyer, brother, Bruce Brokmeyer, father-in-law, James Rascoe, mother-in-law, Judy Autwell and sister-in-law, Jana Wood.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandi Roensch and husband Troy, Brandi Garcia and husband Johnny, son, Andy Brokmeyer and wife Kim. Grandchildren survived are Jackson and Kaldon Roensch, Alexander and Adrianna Garcia and Samuel Brokmeyer. Survived by sister, Robin Maertz and husband Terrel and brothers, James Brokmeyer and wife Frances and Randy (Fritz) Brokmeyer. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Dawn Brokmeyer and aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers are Pete Garza, Darrell Janacek, Larry Cernoch, Lance Cernoch, Bubba Frank, Kley Brokmeyer, Terrel Maertz and Colby Maertz.

Honorary Pallbearers are his grandchildren and nephew, Cody Brokmeyer.
