Rowland Hess Passes Away 1918, The Sealy News

Friday night as the hour of midnight was approaching the soul of little Rowland Hess, took its flight to the realms of the great beyond and returned to Him that gave it. Peacefully the eyelids closed in death and sweetly he slumbers on.

Rowland, who was the youngest child of Mr. And Mrs. Henry Hess was taken ill Saturday, Feb. 16th, with pneumonia and died Friday night at 11:50 p.m. All that loving hands could do was of no avail for the Master saw best to pluck this tender bud from our midst.

The eight years of his earthly sojourn was one of the happiest and sweetest. Not only will he be missed in the home but in the school and Sunday school class there is a vacancy that can never be filled. The little playmates of the neighborhood and intimate friends will miss his cheerful companionship. Though he is gone from our earthly sight, we know there will be an eternal meeting where sorrow and sadness never enter and he is patiently waiting for the loved ones to join him.

Those of the family that remain to mourn his loss are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hess, one sister, Clara and four brothers: Monte, Hugo, Jesse and Floyd.

The services were conducted by the Rev. Bird of the Episcopal Church at the family residence, with burial in the Sealy Cemetery. Those acting as pall bearers were: Misses Ruth Preibisch, Ruth Sigler, Myrtle Schier and Mabel Schindler, all girls of high school.

Many beautiful floral offerings marked the last resting place of little Rowland Kennith Hess.
