Charles Riniker, 87, prominent Bellville businessman for many years, passed away suddenly at his home in Bellville at 5 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 1978.
He attained the age of 87 years, 4 months and 8 days. Funeral services for Mr. Riniker were held from the Chapel of the Pete E. Etlinger Funeral Home in Bellville at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, with Rev. David Hutchins officiating. Interment was in the Oak Knoll Cemetery. Pallbearers were: grandsons, Charles Riniker, Jr., Robert Riniker, Rodney Neumann and Russell Loehr and Gus Riniker Jr. and Floyd Remmert. Charles Riniker was born in the Millheim Community on April 11, 1891 the son of Charles and Louise (Goebel) Riniker. He was reared in the Millheim Community and was educated through the seventh grade in Millheim with George Meissner being his last teacher. Before 1910 he learned the trade of harness and saddle making in Sealy, Texas under H. L. Wendrof. He continued learning later with Sailor Bros. Saddle Shop in Sealy. In the fall of that year he started his own saddle shop in Millheim on the homestead. Mr. Riniker came to Bellville in March 8, 1912 to start his business with harness he had made in Millheim and 17 saddles. In May he had sold all his merchandise and then employed his brother, Gus, to keep with the demand. He was in business for 55 years. Mr. Riniker was a member of the Millheim Harmonie Hall and sang with the Concordia Singing Society for many years as a member. He was a charter member of the Retail Merchants Assn. And also a member of the Chamber of Commerce. For several years he has maintained a small shop at his home in Bellville. He operated his leather business and hardware store with his son for several years. On December 15, 1915 he married the former Ella Hattie Hartman of Cat Spring at the Hartman homestead. The couple returned to Bellville after the wedding and settled in the house he had built for his bride. The couple resided at the home until his death. Mr. Riniker enjoyed fishing and beekeeping. Survivors include: wife, Mrs. Ella Riniker of Bellville; daughers, Mrs. Kermit (Rose Lee) Neumann, Mrs. Leon H. (Virginia) Loehr and Mrs. Willie (Jayne) Hardy, all of Houston; son, Charles Allen Riniker of Sugarland; sister, Mrs. Hugo (Ida Riniker) Muery of Bellville; brother, Gus Riniker of Bellville; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mrs. Frank (Tillie) Gross, and one brother in infancy. Posted by Verna McDowell |
