Mrs. Charles Stafford Dies Tuesday Evening, Rites This Afternoon

Two weeks after celebrating her 88th birthday with a joyous gathering of friends and relatives, Mrs. Charles Stafford died quietly at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Fisher, at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 18. Although she had been in declining health for the past six years, Mrs. Stafford was feeling comparatively well until 26 hours before her death, when she suffered a severe heart stroke.

Funeral rites are being held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of the Pete E. Etlinger Funeral home, with the Rev. Bill McDaniel and the Rev. W. P. Fletcher of Woodsboro, officiating. Interment will be at Oak Knoll, with T. L. Smith, Leo Chatham, Grat Fisher, Walter Krumrey, Fleck Jennings, and L. F. Weige serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Stafford was the former Miss Elizabeth Bates, a native of Manchester, England, and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bates. She was born May 4, 1866. As a young woman of 24 she came to the U. S. and was married to the late Mr. Stafford June 12, 1890, at Sealy. She was a devoted member of the Baptist church and was universally beloved and esteemed. A dignified and delightful conversationalist, Mrs. Stafford was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Woodmen's circle. She loved music and was particularly fond of singing.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mr. Leon Fisher of Bellville and Mrs. D. A. Fulgham of Temple; a son, R. E. Stafford of Bellville; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
