Samuel Randall Clark, 81, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, in Houston. He was born on Sept. 16, 1932, in Bellville, the son of Vernon and Katie (Spence) Clark. He grew up and attended schools in Bellville. Sam served his country in the United States Air Force and he was Honorably Discharged, in1953. Sam was united in marriage to Lillie Phelps on Sept. 8, 1972, at the Austin County Courthouse, in Bellville on a Friday night, some say it was during the same time as the halftime show at the Bellville Brahma football game. They made their home in Houston. Sam was employed with Brown and Root, in Houston, serving in 29 different countries, retiring after 29 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to fish and hunt in Dryden, Texas, with his brother, Jack. Sam shared his birthday with Lillie, his sister-in-law, Nell, and his step great-grandson. Sam is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years Lillie Clark of Houston; daughters Linda Diane Glasscock of Dallas, Texas, Catherine Clara Becker of Oklahoma, Joella Frances Stubbs of Dickinson and Doris Maxyne Sanford of Deer Park; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; stepsons Michael Barfield of Houston and Joe Vernon Barfield of Houston; step daughters Brenda Barfield of Huntsville and Joni Leader of Houston; 5 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren; and brother Jack Clark and his wife, Betty, of Halletsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Katie Clark, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation: 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, Schmidt Funeral Home, Bellville. Funeral service: 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Dewain Pollard, officiating. Interment, Prairie Dale Phelps Cemetery, Prairie Dale, Texas.
