Funeral service for O'Reed Fordtran Lange was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with Reverend Guy William officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Knoll Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John L. Spiess, Mark Wittner, Dr. R.A. Neely, William Lange, William F. Fordtran and Dr. W.B. Neely.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Lange, Keith Kidwell, George Shaffer, John Easterling and Cliff Swallow.

She was born on April 14, 1905 in Industry, Texas the eighth descended of 12 children of Robert Lee Fordtran and Mary Carmichael Fordtran. Mrs. Lange was the sole survivor of the twelve.

She was educated in Industry in one of the Austin County rural school district schools. After graduation, she attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville where she obtained a Teacher's Certificate. She began teaching at the Cochran School near Bellville.

On October 19, 1935 in Industry, Texas, she married Edward Allen "Sonny" Lange, a driller for Humble Oil and Refinery. They lived in Anahuac for many years while Sonny drilled wells in Galveston Bay. After his retirement, the two moved back to Bellville where they built their home and remained until their deaths. Sonny preceded O'Reed in death on February, 16, 1973. A member of the Bellville United Methodist Church, Mrs. Lange loved flowers and animals and enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed cooking, and was especially known for her lemon pies and her rolls.

O'Reed Fordtran Lange passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003 at her home in Bellville at the age of 98.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews Dr. Robert Allen Neely, Dr. Winston Brookfield Neely, Peggy Lea Fordtran Shaffer, Dr. Robert Lee Fordtran, Jr., Judith Gail Wittner Spiess, Mark Charles Wittner, Delois Fortran Easterling, William Frank Fordtran, William Lange, Mary Nell Lange Kidwell, Elsie Ann Lange Russ, Robert Lange, Carolyn Lange Golan, Glenda Kerce Mayes and Claude Joseph Kerce, sister-in-law Mary Fordtran and many other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and five sisters.

In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the charity of their choice.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, Bellville, Texas.
